2014 Men's Rugby Overview

For the last two seasons, the Susquehanna men's club rugby team finished first in the EPRU Small College West Division and recorded its second-straight playoff appearance under head coach Jonathan Niles.

The team has played in two straight EPRU finals, finished second in both 2012 and 2013. In each of these years, SU has garnered an at-large bid into a play-in game for the National Small College Rugby Organization's National Championships.

In seven-a-side rugby, Susquehanna has been extremely successful over the past two years. In the spring of 2013 and 2014, the men's 7's rugby team won one of the eight National Small College (NSCRO) 7's Qualifiers and played at the National Championships in Philadelphia, Pa. In 2013, the team finished fifth overall, losing to the champion - Occidental College - and runner-up University of North Florida in close pool play matches. In 2014, the team finished tied for second in its pool and lost on advancement in the semifinals due to tiebreaker procedures.

Several Susquehanna ruggers have played rugby as parts of their GO (Global Opportunities) program while at Susquehanna. Current players Joe Borza '16, Luke Wenzel '15 and Alex Holderbaum '15 studied for three weeks in Auckland, New Zealand. Captain Zach Bascio '14 played at the Queensland Rugby Academy in the summer of 2013. In the spring of 2012, backline captain Mike Tilley '13 spent the semester studying abroad and playing rugby at the University of Otago in New Zealand. In the fall of 2010, Adam Petrone '12, Chris Tilley '12 and Will Dietrich-Egensteiner '12 studied and played rugby at the University of Limerick, Ireland.
