FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The hitting was as hot as the Florida weather on Saturday afternoon as Susquehanna’s baseball team defeated Martin Luther 18-11 at the Lawnwood Complex.
The Crusaders (2-2) were led by Ty Raubenstine (Elizabethville, Pa. / Upper Dauphin Area) and Alex Miskovsky (Manchester Center, Vt. / Burr & Burton Academy) who both drove in four runs apiece.
Ethan Reiker (Lancaster, Pa. / Manheim Twp.) also had a big day at the plate, finishing with three RBI. Mike Rucereto (Washington Twp., N.J. / Bergen Catholic) smacked two doubles in the SU win.
The Crusaders scored three runs in the first inning before the Knights (0-3) responded with a three-run second. SU then plated three more runs to go ahead 6-3 into the third inning.
The Crusaders erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead 11-5 behind RBI singles from Dan Wing (West Chester, Pa. / Unionville / Catawba), Miskovsky and Raubenstine. Martin Luther rallied to score five during the top of the fifth to trim the SU lead to 11-10.
Susquehanna tacked on four runs in the bottom of the eighth frame to seal the victory.
Casey Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock / IUP) started for the Orange and Maroon, going 4 1/3 innings while striking out five. Nick Torkildsen(Milford, Pa. / Delaware Valley) picked up the win in relief. Dylan Transue (Canadensis, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) pitched well in his SU debut, going three innings from the bullpen.
SU takes on Bridgewater State at 10:00 a.m. and PSU-Brandywine at 1:30 p.m. at the Lawnwood Complex.
