Place, Rieker Earn Landmark Accolades
MADISON, N.J. – Susquehanna's baseball team earned two Landmark Conference honors as freshman pitcher Zach Place (Towanda, Pa. / Towanda Area) and senior left fielder Ethan Rieker (Lancaster, Pa. / Manheim Twp.) have been named Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, for the period ending March 11.
Place earned his first career win for the Crusaders in the first game of a doubleheader against Westminster (Pa.) in Fort Pierce, Fla. He pitched a complete game shutout, going seven innings in the 2-0 victory. He scattered three hits while striking out five and walking only one Titan.
Rieker cracked 11 hits in the final six games in Florida, providing a .478 batting average with four runs scored. He had multi-hit games in four of the six contests in Fort Pierce and hit two doubles and a triple to give him a .652 slugging percentage over the week.
He drove in three runs in game two against Marywood (W, 10-9) and picked up two RBI in the Crusaders' 6-5 win over Westminster in game two. Rieker had one RBI against Centenary (W, 6-5).
The Crusaders stand at 6-6 and are riding a three-game win streak. SU hosts Muhlenberg on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
