BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Susquehanna baseball team could not salvage the doubleheader portion of its three-game series at Moravian, dropping both games on Sunday afternoon in Bethlehem. SU (12-11, 2-4) lost the first game 11-1 and fell 8-6 in the series finale.

The Crusaders managed just three hits in the opening game, with two from Ethan Rieker (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.), who also drove in the only run. Ty Raubenstine (Elizabethville, Pa./Upper Dauphin Area) went 1-for-3 and scored the team's lone run.

Starter Luc Kocher lasted 1.2 innings and gave up six runs on six hits. Matt Lottes (Muttontown, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) tossed the next 2.l innings and gave up four runs and Matt Roe (Freehold, N.J./High Point Regional) came in for the final two innings of play and surrendered one run on two hits.

Things started out promising for SU as the team opened the first inning with one run on a Rieker single. Unfortunately, that also marked the final scoring of the game for the Crusaders.

Moravian (15-10, 8-1) put one run on the board in the first to tie the game then broke through for a five-run second inning. The Greyhounds added two more in the third and fourth innings to grab a 10-1 advantage.

They added another run in the fifth to make it 11-1, which remained the final score as both teams were retired in order in the bottom of the sixth and top of the seventh innings.

Game two had a bit more offense for the Crusaders with six runs and eight hits but it was not enough to overcome a 12-hit effort from Moravian.

Mike Rucereto (Washington Twp., N.J./Bergen Catholic) collected three of those hits and scored three runs while Rieker added two more hits, which included a home run, and two more RBI.

Matt Boyd (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) pitched the first three innings and gave up four hits. Spencer Hotaling (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) gave up two runs in his two full innings and Brian Wendig (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) surrendered two runs in his one inning of work.

Like the first game, SU got on the board first courtesy of a two-run homer off the bat of Rieker that plated Dan Wing (West Chester, Pa./Unionville/Catawba), who had reached on a single.

Moravian countered with a run in the bottom half of the inning for a 2-1 game.

Susquehanna put another two runs together in the second inning and the Greyhounds countered with another run as SU was able to push its lead to 4-2.

Moravian knotted the game at four with a two-run third inning before a Ken Kayama [(Koto-Ku, Japan/Solebury )Pa.)] triple down the right field line scored Rucereto to hand a 5-4 lead back to SU.

In the fifth inning, the Greyhounds took their first lead of the afternoon with two runs on three hits, also aided by an SU error, to make it 6-5.

Yet again the Crusaders managed to tie the game with one run in the sixth but the Greyhounds countered with a two-run sixth of their own that made it 8-6.

With one last chance to tie or take the lead in the seventh, the Crusaders left one runner on base as the game ended on a groundout to the shortstop.

SU travels to Albright on April 3 for a 4 p.m. game.
