Catching Up With...Matt Lottes

This week, the Susquehanna Athletic Communications office “Catches Up With” senior Matt Lottes, a member of the football and baseball teams at SU.

Matthew Lottes
Sport(s): Football, Baseball
Class: Senior
Major: Corporate Communications
Birthday: March 28, 1990

Why did you choose your major? I chose my major because I have always been intrigued by both the business world and the communication world. I sat down with Dr. Sodt (my advisor) and he steered me towards this major and I haven’t regretted it since.

What has been your favorite class so far? My favorite class that I have taken was Advertising Management. I learned about all the components of an advertising campaign and got hands on experience with actually creating advertisements

What are your plans after graduation?  I am currently searching for jobs in the NYC or the Baltimore area.

What is your favorite athletic memory as a Crusader?  In my first conference start of my baseball career, I threw eight innings against Moravian and got the win. It was a very nerve-racking experience, especially since Moravian is our biggest rival.

What is your go-to song to get pumped up for a game? I have two:  “Turbulence” by Steve Aoki and Laidback Luke featuring Lil Jon or “All I Do Is Win” by DJ Khaled

What is your nickname on your team? I have a lot of nicknames. Lottes, Loates, Loates Magoates, but my favorite nickname is Matty Ice

The most embarrassing thing that’s happened to me on the field is: I was throwing a pitch out (which isn’t supposed to be hit) and I accidentally threw it over the plate and the batter hit it back up the middle and it almost took my head off.

The best part about road trips with my team is: Prank wars and the name game on the bus

What advice to do you have for a prospective SU student-athlete?  Learn how to manage your time fast; it is the most essential skill you need to be a student-athlete.

My favorite midnight snack is: Traditional Chex Mix

If you could meet anyone, alive or dead, who would it be and why? Michael Jordan. I grew up idolizing the way Michael Jordan played on the court. He is a great man on and off the court. I would love to sit down and talk to him about his keys to his successful life, and than I would ask him to step into the batter’s box against me and see if he still had some baseball skills.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Can I say everywhere? I would love to travel the world and see everything it has to offer.

Do you have any unique talents/hobbies? I taught myself how to play the guitar and drums. I’m not that good but I like playing music. It’s very relaxing and acts as an escape for me.

Something people may not know about me is: I don’t like ketchup.
