HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Susquehanna baseball team ended the conference portion of their season with a 20-9 loss at Juniata on Sunday afternoon.
SU (15-24, 4-14) led 4-0 after three innings but could not hold off the Eagles (13-24, 4-14).
The Crusaders did pound out 16 hits, with three from Ethan Rieker (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.), Ty Raubenstine (Elizabethville, Pa./Upper Dauphin Area) and Mike Rucereto (Washington Twp., N.J./Bergen Catholic).
Five Susquehanna pitchers took the mound with starter Luc Kocher (Middlebury Center, Pa./Elkland) lasting 4.1 innings and giving up nine runs, only three of which were earned, on six hits with three strikeouts.
SU plated two runs in the first thanks to a Dan Wing (West Chester, Pa./Unionville/Catawba) RBI single and a Juniata wild pitch. The Crusaders tacked on solo runs in the second and third with the third-inning run coming on a Rieker solo shot.
Unfortunately from that point on Juniata out-scored the Crusaders by a 20-5 margin including a six-run fifth and an eight-run sixth.
While SU was able to score three in the fifth and two in the seventh, the team could not put together enough offense to overcome the Eagles.
SU concludes its 2012 season on Monday with a 4 p.m. home game against Gettysburg.
