MADISON, N.J. – For the second time in the past three
years, Susquehanna University has won the Landmark Conference
President’s All-Sports Cup. SU becomes the second team to win
multiple Cups after having also won the award following the 2009-10
season.
“Winning the Landmark Conference President’s Cup is a
terrific achievement for all of our staff and
student-athletes,” Director of Athletics Pam
Samuelson said. “This accomplishment speaks to the
quality of our coaching staff and their ability to recruit and
develop the outstanding group of student-athletes that we are
fortunate to work with each day. The President’s Cup is
a special honor because of our league’s competitiveness and
the way in which it represents overall excellence in its athletic
programs.”
The Cup is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions
for their finishes in the regular season conference standings as
well as results in Landmark postseason competition. SU received
7.617 points to take the title away from Moravian, which captured
the crown last season.
Susquehanna earned one conference title this past year as the
women’s swimming & diving team claimed its
second-straight championship. In addition, the softball team won
the regular season crown while SU boasted second-places finishes in
either the regular or postseasons in volleyball, men’s cross
country, men’s basketball, women’s lacrosse and
men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track &
field.
In addition to the Cup, the Crusaders also earned seven Coaching
Staff of the Year awards and three Players of the Year, making
2011-12 a banner year for SU athletics.
