Baseball Drops Conference Opener at USMMA

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Susquehanna baseball dropped a 9-0 decision to Merchant Marine to begin the 2013 Landmark Conference schedule. The game was played at the College of Staten Island. The second game scheduled for the afternoon was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Crusaders (3-9, 0-1) only had two hits in the contest. Jared Musilli (Branchville, N.J. / High Point Regional) had a single in the third and Rob Marcickiewicz (Red Bank, N.J. / Middletown South) had a single to center field in the fourth.

Casey Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs on five hits. Luke Kocher (Middlebury Center, Pa. / Elkland) came on in relief and scattered seven hits and struck out two.

Merchant Marine (4-4, 1-0) had two players with three RBI each. The Mariners scored two runs in the firs, three in the second and four in the third. The Crusaders were plagued by five errors.

The Crusaders are scheduled to play USMMA tomorrow at 12 p.m.  with a nine-inning game to follow.
