SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Baseball and women’s lacrosse are represented as this week’s Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders as sophomore pitcher Spencer Hotaling (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) and senior goalkeeper Emily Stankaitis (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima) have been selected for the period ending March 17.
Hotaling pitched a complete game for SU (5-9, 2-1) at Merchant Marine (W, 9-3) for his second-straight win on the mound. He pitched all seven innings, scattering nine hits and striking out seven.
This year, Hotaling has a 2-1 record with a 3.04 ERA and two complete games. He has pitched in 23.2 innings, walking only four and striking out a league-leading 20 batters. He has allowed only one extra-base hit with opponents hitting .283 against him.
Hotaling and SU are scheduled to play PSU-Berks on Saturday. A location is still TBD.
After leading the No. 13 Crusaders (8-0) to two home wins against Lebanon Valley and Alvernia, Stankaitis was named the Landmark Conference Women’s Lacrosse Defense Player of the Week.
Against the Dutchmen (W, 15-9), she racked up 13 saves to go along with three ground balls. Versus Alvernia (W, 14-3), she registered five saves and picked up two ground balls while allowing only two goals.
In 2013, Stankaitis has started and won all eight contests for SU, playing nearly 429 minutes. She has recorded 65 saves while facing 173 shots, has a league-leading .528 save percentage and a 8.12 goals against average, third-best in the conference.
Stankaitis and the Crusaders travel to McDaniel on Saturday at 1 p.m.
