SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Entering the ninth inning trailing by eight runs, Susquehanna baseball made a five-run rally but unfortunately couldn’t complete the comeback against visiting York (Pa.) and fell to the Spartans 10-7 on Thursday afternoon.
SU (10-13) was trailing 10-2 entering their final at-bat. Dylan Glassmire (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks South) reached base on an error by the left fielder and Greg Stellon (Chadds Ford, Pa. / Tatnall School) followed with a single to left.
After a walk by Jared Musilli (Branchville, N.J. / High Point Regional) to load the bases with no outs, Ty Raubenstine (Elizabethville, Pa. / Upper Dauphin) hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Glassmire and make the game 10-3. Nick Kennedy (Brookeville, Md. / Good Council) ripped an RBI single down the left field line to make the contest 10-4.
Bryan Palsi (Brielle, N.J. / Manasquan) reached on a throwing miscue by the York third baseman, helping score Musilli and cutting the deficit in half, 10-5. Nick Ferlise (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North) cracked a two-run single through the left side to bring the Crusaders within three runs (10-7). The Spartans brought in their closer, Mike Sarecky, and he ended the rally for SU.
The Crusaders had eight total hits in the contest, as Kennedy went 2-for-5 to lead SU. The Crusader infield turned three twin killings against the Spartans (11-12).
The Crusaders travel to the University of Scranton for a Landmark Conference series beginning Saturday at 1 p.m.
Game Note: This was the first meeting with York since 2004 when the Spartans defeated SU 16-2.
