Crusader Baseball Picked Fourth in Landmark Preseason Poll

TOWSON, Md. – The Susquehanna baseball team was predicted to finish fourth in the 2014 Landmark Conference Preseason Poll, announced on Wednesday.

The Crusaders (14-25, 7-11 in 2013) received 29 votes. Reigning league champion Moravian topped the poll with 55 points and five first-place tallies followed by Catholic (41 points, one first-place vote) and USMMA (34 points, one first-place vote).

Scranton, Drew and Juniata closed out the poll with 26, 20 and 12 points, respectively.

SU, under the direction of ninth-year head coach Denny Bowers '00, returns 2013 All-Conference starting pitcher Spencer Hotaling (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) as well as sophomore Bryan Palsi (Brielle, N.J. / Manasquan) who led all starters with a .363 batting average as a freshman.

Centerfielder Ty Raubenstine (Elizabethville, Pa. / Upper Dauphin), a 2012 All-Landmark Conference player, and closer Matt Smith (Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. / Wyoming Seminary) return for their senior campaigns.

SU opens the 2014 season on Sunday, Feb. 23 with a doubleheader at Shenandoah.
