SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Women's field and baseball are represented as this week's Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders as freshman javelin thrower Gabrielle Alguire (Tunkhannock, Pa. / Tunkhannock Area) and freshman outfielder Taylor Luckenbill (Pottsville, Pa. / Nativity BVM) have been selected for the period ending March 23.
Alguire set a school and Landmark Conference record in the javelin (in the "new" javelin era, post 1998) at Saturday's Juniata Invitational with her heave of 140-03 (42.74m). The throw ranks fifth in NCAA Division III so far this season.
Alguire and the SU track & field teams host the 30th-annual Jim Taylor Invitational on Saturday, March 29 starting at 10 a.m.
Luckenbill, meanwhile, helped the Crusaders (13-3, 6-0 Landmark) sweep Merchant Marine Academy over the weekend and extend their school-record 13-game winning streak.
Luckenbill hit .615 (8-for-13) in the three contests, including a 5-for-8 performance with four RBI in SU's 11-10 victory in 15 innings on Sunday. The rookie collected at least one hit in each game versus the Mariners.
This season, Luckenbill has started all 16 games and leads the squad in hits (25) and doubles (7). The rookie has also scored eight runs and driven in eight while recording a .500 slugging percentage and a .451 on-base percentage to go along with five stolen bases.
SU is scheduled to play five non-conference home games this week, starting with Neumann on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
