SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Baseball and women’s track are represented as this week’s Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders as freshman outfielder Taylor Luckenbill (Pottsville, Pa. / Nativity BVM) and sophomore mid-distance runner Ashley West (East Hampton, N.Y. / East Hampton) have been recognized.
Luckenbill led SU to a 3-1 week after defeating Elizabethtown and taking two of three games at Drew.
The freshman hit .500 (8-for-16) with five runs and four RBI as the Crusaders clinched a spot in the upcoming Landmark Conference playoffs.
This season, Luckenbill is leading the team in several categories including batting average (.376), at bats (125), hits (47) and doubles (10).
Luckenbill and the Crusaders (23-9, 11-4 Landmark) host Wesley on Thursday at 4 p.m. before taking on Catholic on Saturday and Sunday.
West, meanwhile, set a personal, school and Landmark Conference record in the 800 meter run with her mark of 2:13.50 at Friday night’s Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton.
The sophomore’s time easily eclipsed her previous PR of 2:16.57 and earned her 29th overall in the field of 78 runners. Following her performance, West was named the Landmark Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week.
West and several other athletes will be competing at the Penn Relays this week as well as at Shippensburg’s Paul Kaiser Classic on Saturday, April 26.
