FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Susquehanna University baseball squad bounced back to tally its first win of the season with a 6-1 victory over Kenyon College on Monday morning.
The story of the game was senior pitcher Casey Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock). Hood shut down Kenyon's hitters, going 8.2 innings while giving up one run on just two hits and eight strikeouts along with zero walks.
The Crusaders hit the board first with a two-run single to left from Taylor Luckenbill (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) in the third to take a 2-0 lead.
Susquehanna continued its attack with three more runs in the fifth thanks to two RBI from Justin Cassinelli (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla/SUNY Westchester CC) and one more tallied by Zach Leone (Pelham, N.Y./Fordham Prep/University of Massachusetts) that made it a 5-0 Crusader advantage.
SU finished its offensive attack with a RBI on a fielder's choice by Nick Kennedy (Brookeville, Md./Good Council) in the sixth to expand the lead to 6-0.
The Lords pushed one across with a sacrifice fly to right field to make it 6-1 but were shut out after that as the Crusaders picked up a well-deserved first win of the 2015 campaign.
