Baseball Falls to No. 24 Misericordia

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Just two days after defeating No. 24 Misericordia, the Susquehanna baseball team could not muster another win against the Cougars, falling 4-2 on Wednesday morning.

The Crusaders (2-4) failed to hold onto a 2-0 lead and Misericordia plated the ultimate game-winning run in the eighth to come away with the victory.

SU out-hit the Cougars (5-1) by a 10-7 margin, though, with Zach Leone (Pelham, N.Y./Fordham Prep/University of Massachusetts) going 4-for-5 at the plate.

Matt Cassinelli (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla/SUNY Westchester CC) went four innings, scattering two runs on two hits with six strikeouts.

Susquehanna took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Bryan Palsi (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) led off with a single down the right field line and eventually scored on Nick Kennedy's (Brookeville, Md./Good Council) two-out single to right field.

The Crusaders then went ahead 2-0 in the third when Taylor Luckenbill (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) scored on a double play ball off the bat of Palsi.

It remained 2-0 until the bottom of the fourth when Misericordia scored two runs with the game-tying run coming in the form of a sac fly to right field.

As the teams headed into the bottom of the eighth inning, Chad Bell knocked a two-out single to right field to make it a 3-2 game and Al Reda plated an insurance run with his single down the left field line.

Leone had a two-out single in the ninth but Palsi struck out to end the game.

The Crusaders return to action on Friday, March 6 with a 12 p.m. game against Northwestern (Minn.).
