Baseball Sweeps Weekly Landmark Awards

TOWSON, Md. – The Susquehanna baseball team swept the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week awards as Zach Leone (Pelham, N.Y./Fordham Prep/University of Massachusetts) was named the Baseball Athlete of the Week while Spencer Hotaling (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) was selected as the Pitcher of the Week.

The Crusaders went a perfect 6-0 last week, all against conference opponents, sweeping home series with Juniata and USMMA. They now stand 9-7 on the weekend with a 6-2 mark in Landmark games.

Leone hit for a .429 average in those six games with nine hits, three runs scored and 11 RBI. He racked up a combined five hits in the first two games against Juniata and finished with seven RBI against the Eagles. In the series against USMMA, Leone had four hits and four RBI.

This season, Leone leads all starters with his .467 batting average, 28 hits and 18 RBI. He also has a team-leading eight triples to go along with a .633 slugging percentage. In addition, he has scored eight runs and struck out just six times in 60 at-bats.

Meanwhile, Hotaling started two games this past week and went 2-0 and finished the week with a 0.75 ERA and 10 strikeouts. Hotaling pitched 12 innings and gave up just four hits and one run and was on the winning end of a 4-0 shutout over USMMA on Sunday.

Hotaling is 3-1 on the season with a team-leading 2.40 ERA. He has two complete games to his credit as well as one shutout. He has tossed 30 innings with 26 strikeouts to just nine walks. Just eight of his 11 runs have been earned and batters are hitting a mere .252 against Hotaling.

The Crusaders returned to action on Monday, March 30 with a 3:30 game at Drew in a game rescheduled from earlier in the season.
