Baseball Conference Win Streak Snapped

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Susquehanna baseball team saw its seven-game conference win streak snapped with Friday night's 7-3 loss at Catholic.

Bryan Palsi (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) had one hit and drove in two of SU's three runs. Taylor Luckenbill (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) went 1-for-5 with a homerun.

Starting pitcher Casey Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) went 4.2 innings and gave up four runs on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Jonny Vizcaino (La Jolla, Calif./Francis Parker) pitched the final 3.1 innings and surrendered three runs (two earned) on four hits.

Susquehanna (10-9, 7-3) got on the board first on Palsi's two-run single to right field. Catholic (14-5-1 6-4), however, plated two runs in the second on an Andrew Stewart two-run homer and it was knotted at two after two.

The Cardinals took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth. The first run scored when Dan Hinchclif was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and an Eric Scarmardel's sac fly to center allowed the second run of the inning to score. Catholic tacked on two more runs in the sixth on Thein-Quoc Tran's two-run single to right.

In the top of the next inning, Luckenbill's two-out, solo shot to right field in the seventh made it three-run game (6-3) with two innings to play.

Unfortunately, Catholic got that run back with another run in the bottom of the eighth to regain a four-run lead (7-3). SU then left one runner on base in the ninth to end the game.

The Crusaders and Cardinals conclude their series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
