READING, Pa. – The Susquehanna baseball team picked up its second shutout of the season with Tuesday's 9-0 win at Albright (11-11-1).
The Crusaders (14-12) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back.
SU pounded out 13 hits while starting pitcher Jonny Vizcaino (La Jolla, Calif./Francis Parker) went five shutout innings with nine strikeouts and just two hits.
At the plate, Bryan Palsi (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) went 3-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored with one of those three hits a homerun. Shortstop Nick Kennedy (Brookeville, Md./Good Council) had two hits and two RBI and Tom Shields (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) went 2-for-4 with one run scored.
Kennedy drove in the first run of the game with a second-inning single up the middle that scored Palsi. Taylor Luckenbill's (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) single through the left side plated two more runs to give SU a 3-0 advantage.
In the top of the fourth, Justin Cassinelli's (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla /SUNY Westchester CC) sac fly to right made it 4-0 and the following inning, Palsi came through with a two-run home run to left field to put the Crusaders ahead 6-0.
A throwing error in the sixth allowed Susquehanna to take a 7-0 lead and three innings later, Chris Ryan's (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) sac fly and Kennedy's double down the left field line accounted for SU's final two runs of the game.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 18 with a doubleheader at Landmark Conference opponent Scranton. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
