Another Home Win for Baseball

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna sophomore pitcher Bobby Klatt (Leonardo, N.J./Mater Dei Prep), making just his second career start, gave up just one earned run in seven innings in the Crusaders' 5-3 win over visiting Rutgers-Camden.

SU (15-15) held off a ninth-inning rally by the Scarlet Raptors (17-13) to improve to 9-3 at home.

Tom Shields (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) had two hits and two runs scored while Zach Leone (Pelham, N.Y./Fordham Prep/University of Massachusetts) had two hits – including a homer – with four RBI and one run scored.

The game was scoreless through three-and-a-half innings until Leone's sac fly in the bottom of the fourth scored Shields for a 1-0 ballgame. Two innings later, Leone's two-run double to right center in the bottom of the sixth extended SU's lead to three (3-0).

Rutgers-Camden plated two runs in the top of the seventh, only one of which was earned, and came out of the inning down by just one (3-2).

Nick Kennedy's (Brookeville, Md./Good Council) bunt single in the bottom of the seventh allowed Bryan Palsi (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) to score Susquehanna's fourth run of the game. Leone's solo shot in the bottom of the eighth provided a much needed insurance run to make it 5-2 heading into the top of the ninth.

The Scarlet Raptors put runners on the corners with two outs in the top of the ninth and a Crusader fielding error allowed Rutgers-Camden to score its third run of the afternoon. Matt Cassinelli (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla/SUNY Westchester CC) came in from center field to pitch and picked up his first save of the season by getting Joe Sigismondi to ground out to third.

SU remains at home to host York on April 23 at 4 p.m.
