Baseball Grabs Series Finale from Elizabethtown

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna baseball team ended its conference and home season with a win, taking the series finale from Elizabethtown 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.

SU (17-17, 10-11) jumped out to a 1-0, first inning advantage and never relinquished that lead.

Cory Fallon (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) drove in two of the Crusaders' four runs while Jonny Vizcaino (La Jolla, Calif./Francis Parker) had one hit, one RBI and one run scored.

Starter A.J. Pinto (Bronxville, N.Y./Fordham Prep) tossed the first 5.1 innings and gave up two runs on four hits. Three Crusader relievers tossed the final 3.2 innings and gave up a combined one run. Liam Conboy (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his fifth save of the spring.

Vizcaino's first inning RBI single to left field scored Nick Marini (High Bridge, N.J./Voorhees) and three innings later, Jimmy Kinneally (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) doubled to left center to drive home Alex Salesky (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson West Lawn) for a 2-0 Susquehanna lead.

Fallon's two RBI single to right the very next inning made it a four-run game heading into the sixth inning.

In that sixth inning, the Blue Jays plated two runs, cutting SU's lead in half (4-2) with three-and-half innings still to play.

Elizabethtown made it a one-run game in the top of the seventh when Aaron Rahn scored on a Crusader fielding error. Reliever Cole Luzins (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) retired the side in order in the eighth, though, and Conboy also set the Blue Jays down in order in the ninth to preserve the SU victory.

Susquehanna closes out the 2015 season on April 27 with a 4 p.m. game at Gettysburg.
