Baseball Powers Past Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Susquehanna baseball team used 15 hits and 19 runs to defeat Moravian 19-4 on Sunday afternoon to take two of three against the Greyhounds. SU is now 21-10 overall and 13-2 in Landmark Conference action.

Moravian (14-17, 8-7) scored all four of its runs in the first inning as starter Ryan Beckwith got the win in his six innings of work. Relievers John Cooley, James Panzarino and Jack Kinney all tossed one inning each of no-run ball, scattering just two hits over those three innings.

Justin Cassinelli and Matt Cassinelli each had home runs as Justin Cassinelli went 4-for-5 from the leadoff spot with six RBI and two runs scored while Matt Cassinelli finished with two hits, two RBI and a three runs scored. Zach Leone drove in two runs on two hits and Bryan Palsi had two hits, two RBI and three runs scored.

After Moravian jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead, SU pulled within one after a three-run second. Justin Cassinelli drove in two runs on a single to right field and Josh Cimino's RBI groundout made it 4-3.

The Crusaders took the lead for good after plating four runs in the third. Palsi, Taylor Luckenbill and Justin Cassinelli all drove in runs with Cassinelli's single through the left side sending two runners home and making it 7-3 in favor of Susquehanna.

Matt Cassinelli knocked a two-run homer to left field in the fourth and Justin Cassinelli's solo shot the next inning put SU ahead 10-3.

Susquehanna put the game out of reach with a six-run sixth inning with Leone's two-run double down the right field line driving home the final two runs of the inning.

The Crusaders tacked on three more runs in the ninth for the final 19-4 victory.

Susquehanna returns home to host Albright on April 20 at 4 p.m.
