SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna baseball player Zach Leone and women's track athlete Ashley West have been named SAAC/Pepsi Super Crusaders for the week ending April 17.
Leone started all five games this past week and hit for a .526 average. He totaled 10 hits – six for extra bases (three doubles, two home runs) – with a 1.158 slugging percentage and a .571 on base percentage. He only struck out once in 19 at-bats while scoring eight runs and driving in seven.
This season, Leone has started all 29 games in which he has played and is batting .460 with 52 hits, 32 runs scored and 39 RBI's. He has five home runs, 16 doubles and one triple. He has only struck out seven times in 113 at-bats and has 11 walks. He boasts a .752 slugging percentage and a .515 on-base percentage.
The Crusaders are 21-10 overall with a 14-2 mark in Landmark Conference action and return home on Wednesday, April 20 to host Albright for a 4:00 p.m. game.
West placed 17th (second among NCAA Division III competitors) out of 132 runners in the 1500 meter run at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University. Her time of 4:33.27 lowered her Landmark Conference and Susquehanna records and places her ninth among all NCAA Division III athletes this season. She also placed eighth overall – and was the top Division III athlete at the meet – in the 800 meter with a time of 2:12.28. Her time is top in the conference and ranks 14th in all of NCAA Division III.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 23 when the team travels to East Stroudsburg University.
