Ramapo Hands Baseball First Tournament Loss

AUBURN, N.Y. – The Susquehanna baseball team suffered its first loss of the NCAA Regional Tournament with Thursday night's 9-2 loss to No. 8 Ramapo. The Crusaders, who also saw their six-game win streak come to an end, face Castleton in an elimination game on Friday, May 20 at 2:30 p.m.

SU (30-15) pounded out 11 hits but managed just two runs with 12 runners left on base. The Roadrunners (35-10-1) racked up 13 hits but did all their scoring damage over the course of just three innings.

Dylan Glassmire and Zach Leone each drove in runs and finished with two hits apiece, as did Taylor Luckenbill and Bryan Palsi.

Starter John Cooley went just two innings and gave up four runs on two hits with three walks. Relievers Cory Fallon and Bobby Klatt pitched the final seven innings with Klatt giving up just one run in his four innings of work.

Cooley put up zeroes until he ran into trouble in the third inning when the Roadrunners pegged him for four runs. He came out of the game after allowing a bases loaded walk that made it 1-0. Fallon came on in relief and Ramapo broke through for five additional runs, three of which were charged to Cooley.

Ramapo tacked on two more runs in the fifth on a Bobby Shannon RBI single and Joe Crabbe's sac fly.

SU got on the board when Glassmire's double scored Tom Giamo. Leone came through in the next at-bat with a RBI single to left field that allowed Glassmire to score and make it 8-2.

The Crusaders loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the eighth but a strikeout followed by a double play ball off the bat of Justin Cassinelli ended the inning without a run scoring.

Klatt, who entered the game in the sixth inning, gave up one run in the top of the ninth for a 9-2 ballgame.

Glassmire led off the bottom of the ninth with a single but the next three batters were retired in order to end the game.
