Weather Causes Changes in Landmark Baseball Tournament

The recent weather conditions that have caused several games in the Landmark Conference to be postponed and rescheduled has led to the conference announcing a change in the baseball tournament format for 2017.

Originally the conference championship was take place over a two-week period, with the best-of-three semifinal series taking place at the two highest seeds on Saturday, May 6 through Sunday, May 7. The championship best-of-three series would have followed the week after, Friday, May 12 through Saturday, May 13.

Due to the recent inclement weather, its impact on fields, and the limited number of make-up dates available, the championship will be hosted by the highest seed, as determined by regular season play, and will feature the top four teams in the conference competing over three days in a double-elimination format. The conference championship was previously determined by this format from 2008-14.

The championship shall be conducted over three consecutive days, with two games on the first day, three games on the second day, and up to two games on the third day. The final games shall take place during the second weekend of May, the final weekend prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament.

With the conference championship condensed from two weekends to one, the first weekend, May 6-7, shall be used by teams for rescheduled conference contests, as necessary.

The championship schedule shall be announced following the completion of regular season play on Sunday, May 7.
