SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Women’s soccer sophomore forward Marissa DeParto (Franklin Lakes, N.J. / Indian Hills) and football junior split end Spenser Ercole (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area) have been selected as the SAAC Super Crusaders for the week ending September 25.
DeParto helped lead her team to a 2-0 record with a 4-0 win at Lycoming in the River Derby and a 3-2 Landmark Conference opening victory at Drew. Against Lycoming, she had one goal and one assist and fired eight shots. Versus Drew, she scored one goal on two shots with her score cutting the Rangers’ lead to 2-1.
In 2011, DeParto has started all seven games, leads the team in goals (6), game winners (2), points (13), shots (21) and shots on goal (14). She has helped lead the Crusaders to a 5-2, 1-0 record, including victories in four of the past five matches. SU has not lost back-to-back games thus far in 2011.
Ercole hauled in five catches for 152 yards and two touchdowns and returned two kickoffs for a combined 30 yards as the Crusaders outlasted Gettysburg 56-55 in overtime.
For the season, he has eight receptions for 172 yards (21.5 ypr) and two touchdowns, with a long of 47 yards. He is averaging 43 yards per game on punt returns and leads the Crusaders with 10 kickoff returns for 201 yards (20.1 avg) with a long of 34 yards. Ercole is third on the team in scoring with 12 points.
Ercole has helped SU to a 3-1, 2-1 mark. The victory over Gettysburg was the second overtime win of the campaign and all of the Crusaders’ wins have been by three points or fewer.
