SELINSGROVE, Pa. –Susquehanna football standout safety and returner Jalon Scott '13 (Albany, N.Y. / Albany) has signed with Finnish football team Vantaan Taft, announced Monday.
Serving as a team captain his senior year, Scott was named to the Centennial Conference First Team. He returned 14 kickoffs for 333 yards (23.8 avg.) and two touchdowns. Scott opened the Sept. 22 game versus Gettysburg with a 93-yard score and ran one back 84 yards at McDaniel on Nov. 3. Scott also returned seven punts for 77 yards (10.1), with a long return of 33 yards.
At safety, Scott recorded 58 tackles (35 solo), including two tackles for loss and one sack. He had a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown, seven pass break-ups, eight passes defended, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one blocked kick.
After the 2012 season, Scott participated in the first-ever ProGrass International Scout Bowl held in Florence, Ala. on March 15. He played for the North team during the all-star contest that featured student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions.
In his career at SU, Scott racked up 210 tackles (130 solo) with eight interceptions and 24 pass break-ups. His six picks as a freshman in 2009 earned him the Liberty League Rookie of the Year honors in the team's final season in the conference.
Scott follows former SU quarterback Derek Pope'09 who played for Vantaan in 2011 and Greg Tellish '12, who signed with the team in February.
