Football Tabbed for Fifth-Place Finish in Preseason Poll
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Susquehanna football team was slated
to finish fifth out of 10 teams in the 2012 Centennial Conference
preseason poll, released on Wednesday.
The Crusaders received 92 votes, trailing preseason favorite Johns
Hopkins (153), Ursinus (137), Muhlenberg (126) and Gettysburg (96).
Franklin & Marshall (85), Dickinson (71), McDaniel (68),
Moravian (53) and Juniata (19) filled out the six through 10 spots,
respectively.
The Centennial preseason poll has predicted the Conference
champion in 12 of the last 14 seasons, including the last four in a
row.
SU, under 23rd-year head coach Steve
Briggs, returns six starters on offense and nine on
defense for the 2012 campaign, which opens at home on Aug. 31
against USMMA at 4 p.m.
Among those key players returning are All-League players
Spencer Hotaling (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove
Area), a kicker and defensive lineman Ken
Schetroma (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia).
