SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Football and volleyball are represented as the Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders for the period ending Sept.29 as junior Adrian Bernard (East Stroudsburg, Pa. / Pius X) and freshman Erin Byrne (San Diego, Calif. / Scripps Ranch) have been selected.
Bernard was a dominant force on defense in Saturday's loss to Gettysburg, racking up a career-best 20 tackles (15 solo) to go along with two sacks, five tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
This season, the linebacker leads the team in tackles (46) and forced fumbles (2) and is tied for first with 6.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries.
Bernard and the football team play at Muhlenberg on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Byrne helped lead the Crusaders to a 4-1 week by recording 41 kills (2.73 kps), 14 service aces, 32 digs, nine total blocks and seven assists as SU improved to 17-4 on the year, including taking a now 15-1 New York University squad to five sets.
This season, Byrne has appeared in 70 of 74 sets and leads the squad with 3.14 kps and 48 service aces. She also has a .238 attack percentage, 168 digs (2.40 dps) and 40 total blocks.
Byrne and the volleyball squad travel to Penn State Berks on Wednesday before hosting the first Landmark Conference Round Robin Weekend, starting on Saturday against Goucher at 6 p.m.
