Miller Named Player of the Week

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – At Friday’s seventh Quarterback Club Luncheon of the year, Susquehanna junior defensive back Cody Miller (Towanda, Pa. / Towanda) was named the Wealth Professionals/Gus Weber Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s 27-17 Homecoming win over Moravian.

Miller, who was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week, picked off a Greyhounds pass and returned it 56 yards for a touchdown which, at the time, put the Crusaders (1-5, 1-4) ahead 20-3. Miller also had four tackles and a game-high four pass breakups as the Susquehanna defense held Moravian to 248 yards of total offense (versus the 353 by the Crusaders).

Through six games this season, Miller is tied for second on the team in total tackles with 39 (32 solo, 7 assisted) and leads the team with seven pass breakups and nine passes defended. He also has two interceptions and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Wealth Professionals of Shamokin has partnered with SU as the official sponsor of the Player of the Week Award for the second-straight season. The sponsorship was spearheaded by Ken Shedleski, owner and president of Wealth Professionals. This week Miller made a donation to the Jimmy V. Foundation.

The award is also named in honor of late Susquehanna president Gustave Weber, who was SU’s president for more than 18 years who was also an avid Crusader athletics booster who actually served as head football coach for the final two games of the 1965 season.

SU hosts Ursinus tomorrow night at 6 p.m., the first home night game at Lopardo Stadium since 2008.
