Wade, Byrne Named Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Football and volleyball are represented as Susquehanna's Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders for the period ending Oct. 5. Junior running back Tim Wade (Doylestown, Pa./La Salle College HS) and sophomore Erin Byrne (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) have been selected for the award.

Wade had a career day on the ground in a narrow, 24-20 loss to Muhlenberg on Saturday as he rushed for 202 yards on 31 carries and 6.5 yards per carry. His total is the sixth-highest mark in program history and the only 200-yard performance in the Centennial Conference this season.

Overall, Wade leads the Crusaders with 482 yards rushing on 131 carries (3.7 yards per carry) and is averaging 96.4 yards per game. His four touchdowns are second only to wide receiver Denzell Walker (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh School), who leads SU with five.

Byrne started both conference matches on Saturday and helped lead the Crusaders to a 3-1 win over Goucher and a 3-0 sweep of Catholic as the team clinched a berth in the Landmark Conference playoffs.

The sophomore tallied 26 kills in seven sets (3.71 kills per set) while committing only two errors in 51 attempts. Byrne also added four service aces, 12 digs, and two block assists to round out her stat line. For the season, she leads SU with 222 kills and is second in digs (185), service aces (31), and total blocks (41).

The football team enjoys a break from action this weekend as the Centennial Conference takes its bye week while Byrne and the volleyball team travel to Union College (N.Y.) for the Union Invitational. The tournament runs from Oct. 10-11 and features matches against Union, Lasell, Bridgewater St., and Skidmore.
