Football Tabbed for Ninth-Place Finish in Preseason Poll

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Susquehanna football team, led by 25th-year head coach Steve Briggs, was picked to finish ninth in the Centennial Conference Preseason Poll. The poll was released during the conference's annual media day on Wednesday morning at Franklin & Marshall College.

Five-time defending Centennial champion Johns Hopkins University was announced as the preseason favorite, earning 158 points with 14 first-place votes in the poll of conference head coaches and sports information directors. Muhlenberg was not far behind with 147. Susquehanna, which finished last season with a 1-8 record in the conference, occupies the ninth spot in the poll with 42 points.

Leading the way for the Crusaders this season are Division III Preseason All-Americans Spencer Hotaling (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) and Denzell Walker (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh School). Hotaling, a senior kicker and three-team member of the Centennial Conference First-Team, earned Preseason First-Team recognition in Division III from USA College Football while Walker, a senior wide receiver, was named as an honorable mention.

The Crusaders open their season on Sept. 6 with a non-conference road game at Lycoming. The home opener at Lopardo Stadium is slated for Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. against Johns Hopkins.
