Name: Jim Barry
Sport:
Football
Class:
2016
Major:
Marketing

Why did you choose your major?
I've always wanted to study business, but marketing was always most interesting to me. It allows me to be creative and use my strong communication and sales skills.

What has been your favorite class so far?
My favorite class at SU has been Consumer Behavior with Dr. Williams.

When and where did you study abroad and what was your favorite memory/experience from your time abroad?
I studied in Cyprus in May 2015.  My favorite experience in Cyprus was the food. It was fresh and delicious!

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation I plan on trying to play football professionally, either here or outside of the country.  When I am finished playing, I plan on building a career using my experiences and education from Susquehanna.

What are your goals, both individually and as a team, for the remainder of the season?

My individual goals are to be an All-American and lead the conference in tackles and reach 300 tackles for my career. Our team goal is to go 3-0 and finish the season strong with a 6-4 record in order to create a foundation to build on going forward.

What is your leadership philosophy? Are you a vocal leader? Do you lead by example?

I believe a leader should be accountable, for themselves and for their teammates. A leader should also be able to inspire their teammates and be positive all the time. I am both a vocal leader, I try to express my views and interests without loudly proclaiming my opinion, and I lead by example.  I make sure I set the example by working as hard as I possibly can in the classroom, the weight room, in meetings and on the field.

What lasting impact do you hope you've made on the team that will be felt long after your final game?

I hope that I will have affected the culture of the SU football. I want to make sure the program has hard working men who are disciplined, focused, committed, and ready to be challenged so that they can really enjoy playing the game.

The best part about being a collegiate football player…
is the team. The relationships I've built with my teammates will last forever and I've created so many great memories with my teammates. Being able to go to battle every Saturday with my team is a feeling that cannot be replaced.

The best part about being a football player at Susquehanna is… playing in a competitive conference, the Centennial Conference and being a part of such a long line of men who have represented this University.

The most embarrassing thing that has happened to me on the field is….when I miss a tackle.

What advice do you have for a prospective SU student-athlete?
Commit to the program and stick with it! There will be a time when you think football might be too much or it may not be for you, but it's important to stay committed. Playing college football is something that a lot of people do not have the opportunity to do. Take advantage of the opportunity and work as hard as you can.

My favorite midnight snack is… a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Quest Bar.

If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Hard-working, dedicated, motivator.

Something people may not know about me is…. I love to cook.
