SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna football team has announced its 2016 schedule. The Crusaders open the season on Sept. 3 on the road and will have an even split of five regular season home games and five road games.
SU opens the fall at Lycoming on Sept. 3 for the annual "Stagg Hat Trophy" rivalry game. The "Stagg Hat" portion of the rivalry series was resumed in 2014 after a five-year hiatus. The series was played annually from 1993-2009 as the Crusaders and Lycoming battled for the "Stagg Hat Trophy" which is an actual fedora worn by Amos Sr. while he coached at Susquehanna. The Warriors hold a 29-21-1 edge in the all-time series between the teams which dates back to 1949.
The Centennial Conference opener against Johns Hopkins on Sept. 10 marks the home opener for Susquehanna and will also be Homecoming. The Crusaders then travel to Dickinson on Sept. 17 before hosting Gettysburg and Muhlenberg on Sept. 24 and Oct. 1, respectively.
Back-to-back road games follow at Moravian on Oct. 15 and Ursinus on Oct. 22. SU returns home on Oct. 29 to host Franklin & Marshall and then hits the road for a game at McDaniel on Nov. 5. The last regular season game will be on Nov. 14 when the team host Juniata for Senior Day and the annual Goal Post Trophy game.
This past season, SU went 5-5 and brought both the Stagg Hat and Goal Post Trophies back to Susquehanna.
