Football Tabbed for Sixth-Place Finish in Preseason Poll

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Susquehanna football team has been picked to finish sixth in the 2016 Centennial Conference Preseason Poll. The poll was unveiled Wednesday at the conference's annual media day on the campus of Franklin & Marshall College.

Seven-time defending Conference champion Johns Hopkins was again the preseason favorite to capture the conference title in a poll of head coaches and athletic communications directors.

The Blue Jays, who won their 11th Centennial title last year with a perfect 10-0 regular season, picked up 17 of a possible 20 first-place votes for 159 points. Voters were not permitted to select their own team. Muhlenberg was second in the balloting with two firsts and 144 points, while Moravian was slotted for the No. 3 position with 132 points. Franklin & Marshall, which picked up the other first-place ballot, was fourth with 99 points.

Gettysburg (91) and Susquehanna (85) were fifth and sixth, respectively, followed by Ursinus (74), Dickinson (52), Juniata (46) and McDaniel (18).

The River Hawks went 5-5 a year ago under first-year head coach Tom Perkovich, a three-win improvement from 2014. The team returns four of its six All-Conference performers from 2015, including reigning Rookie of the Year Diamente Holloway.
