Seniors Tommy Bluj, Ryan Ganard and Nick Crusco have been selected as the captains for the 2017 Susquehanna University Football team as announced by head coach Tom Perkovich.
Bluj is listed as a wide receiver on the roster but also contributes to the team success as a return specialist with punt and kickoff returns. A Second Team All-Centennial Conference selection in 2016, Bluj led the River Hawks with 57 receptions as a wide receiver and 11 punt returns for special teams. He also had five kickoff returns and scored a pair of touchdowns.
Ganard is one of the returning starters in the defensive backfield and was tied for the team lead with five interceptions from his safety position in 2016. He was second on the team with 61 tackles (33 solo) and was also second on the squad with eight pass defensed (interceptions+break-ups).
Crusco started the final six games of the 2016 season at quarterback and led the team with 1,757 yards on 135 completions with 10 touchdowns through the air. He also ran for 216 yards and eight TDs and was tied for second on the team with 54 points scored while accounting for a team-best 281.9 yards of total offense (rush+pass) per game.
The River Hawks open the 2017 season Sept. 2 with a home game against Lycoming College.
