Susquehanna falls to #11 William Smith
GENEVA, N.Y.- The Susquehanna field hockey team fell to another
undefeated team, this time 11th-ranked William Smith College, 5-2,
in the finale of the Heron Invitational Sunday.
William Smith needed just 17 seconds to get on the scoreboard, but
the Crusaders pulled even in the ninth minute when freshman Caitlin
Peterson (Central York/York, Pa.) batted in a bouncing ball from
three yards out.
The Herons erupted for three unanswered goals before halftime. In
the 49th minute, Susquehanna cut its deficit in half when junior
Jenelle Anthony (Stroudsburg/Saylorsburg, Pa.) converted a penalty
stroke.
The Herons outshot the Crusaders 15-3 in the opening frame and
19-6 overall.
Junior goalie Lindsay Meabon (Northern/Dillsburg, Pa.) registered
11 stops for the Crusaders.
