Crusaders Fall to 19th-Ranked Juniata Field Hockey Squad
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Playing its second ranked opponent within a week, the Susquehanna field hockey team could not get past No. 19 Juniata in a midweek Landmark Conference matchup, ultimately falling 4-0.
SU (2-8, 0-3) managed only five shots all afternoon, with all five coming from different players. Juniata, meanwhile, had 24 shots, eight of which were on goal.
Crusader goalies Erin Ferguson (Mount Laurel, N.J./Seneca) and Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa./Northern) each played a half, with both making two saves and allowing two goals apiece.
With 6:25 on the clock in the first half, the Eagles struck first on an unassisted Caitlyn Bowman goal. With 1:30 left in the half, Bowman struck again with another unassisted score to make it 2-0 at halftime.
Juniata's Kara Buda had a similar second-half performance to Bowman's first half, scoring both of her team's second-period goals in a span of less than 10 minutes. That 4-0 lead remained the final score.
The Crusaders are back home, and continue league play, on Saturday when they host Scranton at 1 p.m. The game has been designated the team's Breast Cancer Awareness Game and all fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink.
