River Hawks Field Hockey Wins Second Straight

QUICK STORY: The Susquehanna field hockey team won its second straight game by defeating McDaniel 3-2 at home Tuesday afternoon.

RECORDS: Susquehanna is now 3-1 on the season while McDaniel falls to 1-4. This marks the best start since the 2013 squad also started 3-1.

SU'S TURNING POINT: Six minutes to the second half, Taylor Franco scored the first goal of the game off a pass from Lauren Cram to give the River Hawks the 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Franco scored her second goal of the game to give SU the 2-0 lead before Cram scored her first goal of the season to put SU ahead by three (3-0) at the 49:42 mark.

FIRST HALF: The River Hawks out-shot the Green Terror 14-3 in the first half but neither team was able to score a goal as the score remained 0-0 at the half.

MCDANIEL FIGHTS BACK: The Green Terror scored the last two goals of the game – Gabrielle Yore (61:53) and Emily Farrell (69:31) – but it was not enough as Susquehanna held on to win 3-2.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Even though SU out-shot McDaniel 23-15, the Green Terror took 12 of their shots in the second half. Cram and Emily Novakovich led all players in shots with six apiece – to go along with one assist each – each while Franco made two goals on three shots. Goalie Courtney Purnell made her first start of the season and earned the win with four saves in her 70 minutes of play.
