Field Hockey Suffers Road Loss to No. 20 Catholic

THE HEADLINE: The Susquehanna women's field hockey team opened Landmark Conference play with a 4-1 loss at No. 20 Catholic on Saturday afternoon.

RECORDS: SU saw its four-game win streak come to an end. The River Hawks are now 5-2 overall with a 0-1 Landmark record. Catholic, meanwhile, improves to 5-2 with a 1-0 conference record.

TURNING POINT: Catholic's Marykate McCracken scored less than five minutes into the first half and the Cardinals never gave up that lead. McCracken was one of four different Cardinals to score in the contest.

SHUTOUT COMES TO AN END: Taylor Franco scored with just 1:14 left in regulation to break up Catholic's shutout and put SU on the board. She scored on a deflection off a long shot with teammate Emily Novakovich picking up the assist.

THE NUMBERS: Catholic took 18 shots to Susquehanna's eight. The Cardinals were also awarded 15 penalty corners while limiting SU to six.

Goalie Morgan Ludlam played just under 48 minutes and made four saves. Freshman Emily Digaetano played the final 22 minutes and finished with one save.

Novakovich led Susquehanna with three shots while Abbey Kemble and Franco added two. Kemble also racked up three defensive saves.

TEAM LEADER: Franco's goal gives her a team-leading six on the season. She also leads Susquehanna with 12 points.

UP NEXT: The River Hawks return home to host DeSales on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
