QUICK STORY: The Susquehanna field hockey team defeated Landmark Conference opponent Goucher 4-0 at home Saturday afternoon.
THE RECORDS: Susquehanna improves to 7-2 overall with a 1-41 mark in Landmark Conference action while Goucher drops to 5-5 and 1-1. SU has now won six of its last seven games.
HAT TRICK FOR FRESHMAN: Freshman Hunter Pitman scored three of the four goals for Susquehanna, including the first and last goals. Just over four minutes into the game, Pitman scored an unassisted goal and two minutes later scored her second goal on a pass from Mini Kifolo. Pitman's third goal came in the second half when she scored on a pass from Julia Hasircoglu on a penalty corner at the 43:03 mark.
FOURTH GOAL: SU's remaining goal was scored by Jordan Burkepile on a Hasircoglu pass at the 28:44 mark that made it 3-0.
LAST CHANCE: The last chance for the Gophers to get on the board came at the 63:61 mark when Lizzi Barminski took a penalty stroke but it was saved by freshman goalie Emily DiGaetano.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE: Even though the teams tied in shots at 12 apiece, SU put 10 of them on goal while Goucher only tallied eight shots on goal. Pitman had a game-high five shots while Hasircoglu totaled two and five other players added one each. DiGaetano earned her second win – and first shutout – of her career as she made seven saves in 70 minutes of work.
