Mills, Malko Capture Conference Postseason Honors
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University senior forward
Bubba Mills has been named first-team All-Commonwealth Conference
in men's basketball as voted upon by the league's eight head
coaches and announced Monday.
In addition, freshman forward Mike Malko has become the first
Crusader to earn league Rookie of the Year honors since the award
was established for the 1987-88 season.
Mills (Reading, PA/Reading Central Catholic) averaged 16.0 points
and 7.8 rebounds per game to rank fifth in the Commonwealth
Conference in scoring and third in rebounding. Mills scored in
double figures in 21 of the Crusaders' 24 games, including eight
20-point efforts, and recorded eight double-doubles.
A three-time conference Player of the Week in his career, Mills
became the 30 th player in program history to score 1,000 points
when he netted 12 against Albright in the season finale on Feb. 22,
finishing with 1,010 points to rank 28 th on the career scoring
list at Susquehanna.
For his career, Mills averaged 10.2 points and 5.3 rebounds in 99
career games, scoring in double figures 51 times.
Malko (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) led all conference freshmen
in scoring (11.2 points per game), rebounds (4.0 per game) and
three-pointers made (36), while ranking fourth overall in the
conference in free-throw percentage at 79.4 percent
(54-for-68).
Malko averaged 12.5 points and shot 45.5 percent from three-point
range in the Crusaders' 14 conference games, and scored in double
figures 16 times overall for the season.
Joining Mills on the All-Conference first team were Trevor Deeter
(Albright), Kyle Conrad (Elizabethtown), Brandon Zaleski (Moravian)
and J.D. Byers (Lebanon Valley).
Byers was named Player of the Year for the second straight season
while Albright's Rick Ferry repeated as Coach of the Year. .
