Susquehanna Increases Lead in 2009-10 Landmark Conference President's All-Sports Cup Standings Following Winter Season

MADISON, N.J., April 7 -- Susquehanna University sits in first place out of eight institutions in the 2009-10 Landmark Conference President's All-Sports Cup standings following the conclusion of the Landmark's winter season.

Susquehanna emerged as the conference's All-Sports Cup leader after the fall season for the second straight year on Dec. 10. Just like the fall, SU has earned 7.33 points through this past winter.

The university took Landmark runner-up finishes in men's and women's swimming & diving and men's and women's indoor track & field during the winter. Susquehanna also qualified for the conference playoffs in men's and women's basketball that season, losing in the semifinals after fourth-place regular-season records.

SU captured a Landmark championship in men's cross country this past fall and finished as the postseason runner-up in women's cross country, field hockey, women's soccer and women's volleyball. SU men's soccer finished the regular season in fifth place, just one spot shy of the postseason.

The Landmark All-Sports Cup is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions for their finishes in regular-season conference standings as well as results in Landmark postseason play. The formula also takes into account the number of sports that a school sponsors.

The Landmark does not release the full standings, but The University of Scranton (6.38), Moravian College (5.93) and Juniata College (5.84) rank second, third and fourth (respectively). The other Landmark schools (in alphabetical order) are The Catholic University of America, Drew University, Goucher College, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Juniata finished the fall portion of 2009-10 in second place with a 6.67 score, meaning Susquehanna has now increased its lead over the conference this school year from 0.66 points to 0.95.

Susquehanna finished the 2008-09 school year in third place and 2007-08 in fifth. The Landmark and its All-Sports Cup are both in their third years of existence.

Landmark champions yet to be determined this spring include baseball, men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track & field.

Susquehanna sponsors all 20 Landmark sports.

SU's 2009 Liberty League football championship does not count toward the Landmark President's All-Sports Cup.
