SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior guard Spenser Spencer (Seattle, Wash. / Lakeside) and sophomore center Harley Sellinger (Mill Hall, Pa. / Central Mountain) both scored 16 points as Susquehanna cruised to their first victory of 2012, a 91-57 decision over non-conference opponent Thaddeus Stevens on Tuesday evening.
SU (6-5) jumped out to a commanding 17-0 lead in less than five minutes of play thanks to two field goals by junior forward J.T. Wilson (Sparta, N.J. / Pope John XXIII Regional) and two long range treys from Spencer.
Spencer made another three-pointer to increase the Crusader lead to 22-3 with 9:21 remaining in the first half. All of his points were scored in the opening period.
The Bulldogs (5-4) chipped away at the lead and cut the deficit to 10 points before the Crusaders closed out the opening half with a Sellinger layup and two Mike Perillo (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel) foul shots to take the lead at intermission 40-27.
Thaddeus Stevens pulled within 11 points less than two minutes into the second half but the Crusaders went on a 30-15 run to put the contest out of reach.
SU scored 21 points off of 15 Thaddeus Stevens turnovers in the second half.
Perillo dished out a team-high seven assists. Sophomore guard Jake Eskin (Germantown, Md. / Churchill) scored 10 points off the bench. Thirteen different players scored for the Crusaders.
SU returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 7 to host Landmark Conference opponent Drew at 5:30 p.m. The Crusaders then play conference foe Merchant Marine on Sunday at 2 p.m.
