Week of: Jan. 23-28
Men’s Basketball: After a thrilling weekend sweep of Scranton and Moravian, the Crusaders (11-6, 5-2) continue Landmark Conference play as they head to Merchant Marine (7-11, 2-5) for a Friday night tip-off at 7:30 p.m. SU defeated USMMA at home back on Jan. 8, 73-72 in OT. Spenser Spencer (Seattle, Wash. / Lakeside) led all scorers with 22 points.
On Saturday, SU plays at Drew to take on the Rangers at 4 p.m. SU won the first contest this season at home on Jan. 7, 83-77. Spencer pumped in 27 points and three other Crusaders recorded double-digits. Livestats for that game can be accessed here. Video for that contest can be found here.
Spencer was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week for his performances against the Royals and the Greyhounds. He torched the nets for 33 points as SU handed Scranton its first league loss of the year. His free throws proved to be the game winning points in the Moravian contest.
He averaged 24.5 ppg, shot 50 percent from the field, 42 percent from behind the arc and 90 percent from the charity stripe over the weekend.
Women’s Basketball: SU (4-14, 1-6) heads to Merchant Marine (5-10, 2-5) on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. start. USMMA defeated SU on Jan. 8, 66-61 despite a double-double from Gina Palazzi (Newfoundland, Pa. / Wallenpaupack).
On Saturday, the Crusaders play at Drew (6-11, 2-5) at 2 p.m. The Crusaders defeated the Rangers on Jan. 7, 62-59. Korey McCaffrey (Millheim, Pa. / Penns Valley Area) scored 22 points for SU. Livestats for that contest can be found here. Video for this game can be found here.
Swimming: The men’s and women’s swimming teams head to Reading, Pa. to face Albright in a non-conference meet. Livestats for the meet can be accessed here.
Over this past weekend, the men’s team defeated Drew 158-86. The women’s team beat Drew (76-10) and Juniata, 76-35.
Track & Field: The men’s and women’s track & field teams will participate in the Bison Open & Multi at Bucknell on Friday and Saturday.
This past weekend marked the first home meet of the winter season for SU, the Orange and Maroon Classic. The Crusaders recorded six first-place finishes.
