SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Men’s basketball and women’s track & field are represented as seniors Spenser Spencer (Seattle, Wash. / Lakeside) and Kristin Stam (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro Area) have been selected as the SAAC Super Crusaders of the Week, for the period ending Jan. 22.
Spencer helped lead the Crusaders (11-6, 5-2) to two crucial league victories over the weekend, handing Scranton its first conference loss (77-63) and narrowly defeating Moravian 66-65.
Against the Royals, he poured in 33 points on 11-of-17 shooting, including two four-point plays. Versus the Greyhounds, Spencer scored 16 points and his free throws in the final seconds proved to be the game winners.
For the weekend, Spencer averaged 24.5 ppg to go along with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals while playing a total of 65 minutes. He shot 50 percent from the field, 42 percent from downtown and 90 percent from the charity stripe.
Spencer now has 1,377 career points, holding sole possession of eighth place on SU’s list of all-time scorers. He needs nine points to tie Frank Romano ’57 for seventh place all-time in career scoring.
In the Orange & Maroon Classic, Stam placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 10.91m and was second overall in the long jump (4.95m) in the Crusaders’ first home event of the season and their first meet of 2012.
Stam also finished second in the 60m hurdles, crossing the line in 10.07.
The men’s basketball team has two Landmark games on the road this weekend, at Merchant Marine on Friday and at Drew on Saturday. The track & field squad travels to Bucknell for the Bison Open & Multi on Friday and Saturday.
