Men’s Basketball: The Crusaders (15-9) will host Juniata (17-8) on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. in a Landmark Conference semi-final matchup.
The Orange and Maroon defeated the Eagles 81-71 on Saturday evening in front of a packed O.W. Houts Gym to clinch the No. 2 seed in the tournament and retain an unblemished 7-0 record at home in league action.
Spenser Spencer (Seattle, Wash. / Lakeside) turned in a stellar performance on Senior Night, recording a game-high 27 points. He is now third all-time in career scoring with 1,528 points.
Harley Sellinger (Mill Hall, Pa. / Central Mountain) scored 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
The Crusaders and Eagles split the regular season series with both teams winning on their home courts. Spencer has scored 42 points with nine assists and four boards and Sellinger has tallied 34 points and hauled down 18 rebounds in the two contests against Juniata.
This is the first home playoff game since the 2008-09 season when SU defeated Merchant Marine 82-71.
Track & Field: SU hosts this weekend’s Landmark Conference Championships on Saturday, Feb. 25. Both the men’s and women’s teams finished second in 2011.
The Crusaders competed in the SU Open this past Friday, their third straight home meet.
Ken Schetroma (Elysburg, Pa. / Southern Columbia) was named Field Athlete of the Week after setting a PR in the weight toss with a heave of 15.05m to take fifth in the event, second among DIII competitors. The distance is the best mark in the conference to date.
He also placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 15.33m.
Shannon Galvin (Jamison, Pa. / Central Bucks South) was named Track Athlete of the Week after setting a 10-second PR in the mile with a time of 5:22.61, finishing seventh overall and first among DIII runners. This is the fastest time in the conference this season. She also ran on the 4 X 400 relay team that placed fourth overall with a time of 4:20.36.
Men’s Lacrosse: The 2012 season officially gets underway as the Crusaders travel to Williamsport to take on the Lycoming Warriors on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1:00 p.m.
SU is ranked fourth in the Landmark Conference preseason poll, released on Monday.
Lycoming features the reigning MAC Player of the Year junior Steven Romano.
