Harley Sellinger ’14: Basketball Overseas

Rising Susquehanna senior men’s basketball player Harley Sellinger ’14 is spending time this summer playing basketball internationally in Italy. Through his blog, Sellinger will give Susquehanna fans an inside look at his time overseas.

Day 1
Our flight was delayed for an hour. We finally landed in Rome at 8:30am their time. We went right from the airport to tour the Vatican City. While in St. Peters Cathedral, the Pope came out and started having Saturday evening mass. Once the tour was over we went back to the hotel, had dinner at the hotel which consisted of lasagna, a salad, chicken and fruit. Then we all just sat and talked to each other to get to know everyone.

Day 2
Today was game day. We played against Stella Azzura and won 57-46. I finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and one assist. It was weird playing in the paint because it’s wider than it is in the U.S. but it wasn’t too hard to adjust to. After our game we went to a pizza place right down the road and got some pizza and watched a rugby match. The rest of the day we had a guided tour of Rome where we saw the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish steps.

Day 3
Today was a travel day. We are staying in the Tuscany region in a town called Montecatini Terme. We stopped at another town along the way called Siena. We were given free time to roam around and get some lunch. After lunch a groups of us guys went to a torture museum where the lady let us actually go down into the actual jail part that is still open. Now we are jut at the hotel waiting for dinner.

Overall it has been a good first three days with more games and good times to come!
