Rising Susquehanna senior men’s basketball player
Harley Sellinger ’14 is spending time this summer playing
basketball internationally in Italy with the team AIST.
Through his blog, Sellinger will give Susquehanna fans an inside
look at his time overseas.
Today we went to Milan. Once we arrived there we received a tour of the city and after the tour we were given free time to walk around and explore the city ourselves. One of the guys and I walked into the main shopping corner to see what it was all about. There was Prada and Loius Vuitton on each corner. We decided to check them out for fun. I was afraid to touch anything in there because of how expensive everything was. One hundred twenty-seven euro for a tie!
We all got pizza from a restaurant then went to our hotel before our game that night. We played Selezoine Pallancanestro Varese. It ended up being a U-17 team so we won 92-56. After the game we went to a brewery for dinner.
Today was the day we went to Lake Como. In my opinion it the most beautiful part of the trip. It was amazing! It was surrounded by mountains with villas around the water; George Clooney owns a villa there.
Once we made it to Bellagio we were given time to roam around and see everything for ourselves. I went out to what is called The Point and saw the most beautiful view ever. It had the lake, the mountains around it and in the back there were the snow-topped Swiss Alps. It was incredible!
Once we all met back up again we went back to the hotel. The girls had games that night so I went to watch the first game but I was so tired that I couldn't stay to watch the second game in which Susquehanna alum Gina Palazzi ’13 was playing. I heard she had a pretty good game, though. That night we all just sat outside of the hotel talking and reminiscing on how great the trip was. We had to be up at six the next morning to go to the airport.
Last day. We were all on the bus by 6:30 a.m. to make it to the airport. Our flight was supposed to leave at 10:35 but ended up leaving at 11:45 or maybe even a little later. It was a nice and easy plane ride though and I slept for a good portion of it. Once I got off and went through customs I went and saw my mom; she definitely wasn't too happy with the new Mohawk I had gotten while I was over there.
Overall it was an amazing experience to be able to go and play
overseas and represent the USA and Susquehanna in a sport that I
love. I got to meet new people and make new friends all in just 10
days. I was able to see parts of a country that I had never even
thought about seeing before. I want to say a big thank you
to Chad Wilkinson and Kinsey Durgin of AIST for running
the whole thing. And thank you to Coach Walsh for coaching us
through the games.
Also thank you to all my coaches at Susquehanna and every place before because they are the reasons that I was able to make it over there and play. Another thank you to my parents for helping a lot with making this trip possible and to everybody that made this trip as enjoyable as it was.
Hope all of you that followed my journey through my blog enjoyed it and there will be pictures to come!
