Hedley, Lessard Named Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Men's basketball and women's swimming are represented as this week's Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders as sophomores Brandon Hedley (Silver Spring, Md. / Salisbury Prep.) and Kelsey Lessard (Chestertown, Md. / Queen Anne's County) have been selected for the period ending Jan. 12.

Hedley scored in double digits in all three of SU's contests last week including a career-best 30 points against Misericordia (W, 83-69). Hedley shot 10-of-24 from the field against the Cougars, including seven three-pointers, tied for the third-most in single game history. The guard also had three steals and distributed four assists versus Misericordia.

He then recorded 18 points, six assists and two rebounds against Berkeley (N.J.) (W, 78-64) on Jan. 6. and on Saturday at Drew, (L, 64-63), Hedley scored 12 points, grabbed six boards and dished out five assists.

This year, Hedley leads the Crusaders (8-5, 0-2 Landmark) with 17.2 ppg and 70 assists (to just 37 turnovers) while averaging a team-high 35.3 minutes per game. The sophomore is shooting 37.1 percent from the floor, 36.5 percent from beyond the arc and has registered 15 steals.

Hedley and SU host a pair of Landmark contests this week against Goucher on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Merchant Marine on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Lessard finished the week with five first-place times and one second place finish as the Crusaders went 3-0 in Landmark action at Scranton and against Marywood with Juniata.

Lessard posted the eighth-fastest mark in school history in the 100 free on Saturday at Marywood with a second-place time of 56.41. The sophomore placed first in the 400 IM with a reading of 4:54.57 and helped the 200 medley relay to a first-place showing with a mark of 1:55.31. 

On Jan. 8 at Scranton, Lessard won the 200 fly with a time of 2:17.78 and took first in the 100 breast with a reading of 2:31.29.

Lessard and the Crusaders host Bloomsburg on Friday at 6 p.m. and Franklin & Marshall on Saturday 2 p.m. for Senior Day.
