Weidlich Named Landmark Player of the Week

TOWSON, Md. – After helping the Susquehanna men’s basketball team earn the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference playoffs, freshman guard Steven Weidlich (Watchung, N.J. / Watchung Hills) has been named the Landmark Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 23.

Weidlich started both games this past week for the Crusaders (16-9, 8-6) as SU defeated Juniata 59-58 at the buzzer on Wednesday night and won at Merchant Marine Academy 87-77 on Saturday. Weidlich shot 56.0 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from behind the arc for the week as SU clinched its first playoff berth since 2011-12.

Against the Eagles, Weidlich scored 18 points behind 6-of-12 shooting and five three-pointers while grabbing seven rebounds and distributing three assists. At USMMA, Weidlich poured in a career-high 29 points on 5-of-8 shooting from three and 8-of-9 from the foul line while recording seven boards.

Weidlich is second on the team in scoring with 360 points (15.0 ppg) and second in rebounds with 4.8 rpg. In the conference, Weidlich is second in three-pointers made, third in minutes played, ninth in scoring and 10th in steals.

Weidlich and No. 2 seed SU host No. 3 seed Catholic Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
